Membership Policies

Severe weather policy -- In the event of severe weather, call 919-660-6660 to confirm Health & Fitness Center hours. Should severe weather occur overnight, an announcement will be recorded by 5:30 a.m.

Class newcomers -- If you are new to a class or have any special considerations, please arrive a few minutes early to inform your instructor and better assist us in providing you with options based upon your fitness level.

Identification badge -- You are required to wear the Duke Health & Fitness Center identification badge given to you during orientation at all times when using the fitness facilities. If you forget your badge, you must sign in and check out a generic badge. There is a $5 replacement fee for lost badges.

Key disk and locker policy -- Rental lockers are available on a monthly or yearly basis. Each Health & Fitness Center member is given one key disc to exchange for a locker key. Members may use the lockers during exercise sessions, but must exchange the key before leaving the facility. Lockers that contain items left overnight will be emptied. Members who lose or forget their key discs may use their car or house keys to exchange for a locker key. There is a $5 fee for replacement key discs. Lost locker keys must be replaced for a $10 fee.

Sauna -- Each locker room is equipped with a dry sauna.

Whirlpool and swimming pool -- A whirlpool spa is located in the swimming pool area. Showers are required before entering the whirlpool and swimming pool. No tissues, open wounds, or bandages are allowed in the swimming pool or whirlpool. Please do not wear dirty shoes in the pool area.

Attire -- Comfortable clothes and a good pair of exercise shoes are important. Shirts and closed-toe shoes – no sandals – must be worn when exercising at the Health & Fitness Center. We strongly recommend that members wear pool shoes when involved in pool activities to protect their feet from abrasions and prevent slipping. Pool shoes can be purchased at the Fitness Desk.

Perfume and cologne -- As a courtesy to others, we ask that members refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or after-shave during all exercise classes and in the locker areas.

Guests -- We welcome guests to the Duke Health & Fitness Center. All visitors must complete an exercise waiver, pay $10 for a daily guest pass, and wear a guest badge at all times while in the facility. Each member is entitled to two free guest passes each year upon membership renewal.

Children -- All children under the age of 16 must have the adult responsible for them sign an agreement at the front desk in order to enter the building. They may not use or be near the indoor track. Teenagers 16-17 years old may purchase a $10 guest pass and exercise at the facility.

Cellular phones -- We ask that members and guests use cellular phones considerately, and remove themselves from classes and equipment for phone conversations.
