The procedures can be used to diagnose the cause of a condition or confirm a diagnosis. The procedure can also be used to evaluate cancers of the digestive system, enabling the physician to determine the stage of the cancer and whether it has spread to other areas.
During the Procedure
The physician will insert a thin, flexible tube that has an ultrasound probe (transducer) at the tip through the patient's mouth or rectum, depending on the area being examined.
