One-stop primary health care for families and individuals of all ages

Treatments

In addition to providing everyday primary care services, our family physicians provide expert services for the following:

  • Children's health care and well-child visits, which includes developmental screening, immunizations, patient safety, and parental guidance to help meet growth milestones.
  • Low-risk obstetrics, office gynecology, and procedures for abnormal Pap smears
  • Immunizations: Immunizations have very successfully decreased the incidence of once-common diseases. But universal, population-wide immunization must be continued or the protection will be lost.

Preventive Health

For every age we provide screenings and physical exams.

Children

  • Visits at one, two, six, nine, 12, and 15 months of age, then yearly thereafter
  • Developmental screening, common parental concerns, anticipatory guidance, and all immunizations required by North Carolina Academies of Family Physicians and Pediatrics
  • Lead and blood count at 12 and 24 months of age

All Adults

  • Blood pressure and weight: every one to two years
  • Physical exam: based on risk factors
  • Cholesterol count: every five years, beginning at age 35.
  • Tetanus shot: every 10 years
  • Counseling: smoking, exercise, diet, and other health risks

Adults 50 years and older:

  • Colon cancer screening: yearly fecal occult blood testing, sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy every five to 10 years
  • Flu shot: yearly
  • Pneumoccocal vaccine: once at age 65 or older
  • Abdominal ultrasound for men ages 65-75 with present or past history of smoking

Women's Health

  • Pap smear: every one to three years based on risk. After hysterectomy, pap smears are not required unless otherwise advised
  • Mammograms: every one to two years between the ages of 40-50 and then yearly
  • Osteoporosis counseling: periodically. DEXA scans begin age 65. If there is a high family risk of osteoporosis, DEXA scans may begin at an earlier age
