Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery

Duke Eye Center offers comprehensive care for medical and surgical conditions of the retina from specialists who are dedicated to excellence. Facilities include dedicated operating rooms with the latest innovations.

Diagnosis and treatment are offered for diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, macular holes, retinal occlusions, and penetrating ocular trauma.

Uveitis Treatment

Specialists from ophthalmology and rheumatology provide evaluation and treatment of uveitis, which is inflammation of the uvea (the layer of the eye that contains the iris). Treatment is offered for both adult and pediatric patients with anterior segment and posterior segment ocular inflammation.

An uveitis evaluation consists of a comprehensive ophthalmologic examination and if necessary, a comprehensive medical examination. Diagnostic services include:

  • Fluorescein and digital ICG angiography
  • Laboratory testing
  • Ultrasonography
  • X-ray
  • Diagnostic vitrectomy
