About

A leader in the medical and surgical treatment of epilepsy since the 1960s, Duke Medicine’s epilepsy program holds the highest level of accreditation by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Our cross-disciplinary staff includes adult and pediatric epileptologists (neurologists with specialized training in epilepsy), general neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, and specially trained nurses and technologists.

Many of our physicians lead national and international epilepsy organizations, and our epileptologists average more than 20 years of experience serving both pediatric and adult patients.

To remain on the leading edge of epilepsy treatment, Duke participates in a number of clinical trials of anti-epileptic drugs, and our ongoing basic and clinical research examines topics such as:

  • Febrile seizures and their relationship to mesial temporal sclerosis
  • Basic mechanisms of epilepsy
  • Pharmacogenetics of anti-epileptic drug therapy
