The Duke Eating Disorders Program offers a number of
specialized programs and services designed to help both
patients and their family members cope with all types and
severities of disordered eating.
Patient Treatment Options
All prospective patients undergo an initial assessment,
which includes a medical evaluation, psychological assessment,
and feedback session. The Eating Disorders Program team then
presents each patient with an individualized treatment plan
that outlines specific areas of skill development that would be
particularly valuable for that person.
Treatment may include one or more of these Duke
programs:
- Standard treatment -- Includes four individual
psychotherapy sessions, four nutrition sessions, and weekly
parent training groups
- Intensive treatment -- Includes two weekly individual
therapy sessions, four nutrition sessions, and weekly parent
training groups
- Step-down treatment -- Includes four weekly individual
therapy session, one nutrition meeting, and weekly parent
training groups
- Patients and family members may also pursue individual
therapy sessions, nutrition consultation, and other related
services separately.
Patient and Family Support Groups

family support groups serve:
- Adolescent patients (with separate groups for patients
ages 12-14 and 14-18)
