A component of the Duke Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the Duke Eating Disorders Program has worked with more than 700 families since it was established in 2000, and continues to see several new families each week.
An outpatient program, Duke’s program is unique in that it integrates medical, psychological, and nutritional care in the same facility. This not only facilitates communication and treatment, it prevents patients and families from having to create their own disparate outpatient treatment team. The specialized, multidisciplinary care they need is all here in one location.
Duke Eating Disorders Program clinicians -- most of whom hold medical and other doctoral-level degrees -- not only provide care for individuals struggling with eating disorders, but also provide educational, supportive, and treatment services for family members. These include parenting groups, sibling groups, and family therapy, as well as other resources.
