Improving your health and well-being
Many participants choose the Duke Diet & Fitness Center
(DFC) because of our emphasis on comprehensive medical
care.
Our medical staff will carefully evaluate your health status
to design a treatment program that best meets your medical
needs.
Your five-day or two-, three-, four-week, or longer program
begins with a thorough medical assessment that includes:
- Thorough history and physical
- Laboratory tests, including cholesterol, triglycerides,
and glucose levels
The DFC medical staff will serve
as your primary care clinicians throughout your stay.
We will monitor medical conditions that are sensitive to the
effects of diet and exercise, such as diabetes, high blood
pressure, and high cholesterol. We will regularly review your
progress and provide or arrange for the medical care you may
need to stay in the program.
We’ll provide you and your physician with a comprehensive
report of our findings and recommendations. When needed, our
staff can arrange for specialty consultations with Duke
University Health System physicians.
While care for urgent problems is quickly available and we
have direct referral service available for many specialty
appointments, some specialty consultations may require up to
several month's notice.
Thus, if you know in advance of your visit that you would
like to meet with a specialist while at the DFC, it is helpful
to have your personal physician contact the Duke Consultation
and Referral Center at 1-800-MED-DUKE.
