Duke Diet & Fitness Center
One of the longest running residential weight loss programs in the world

Give to the DFC

As overweight and obesity rates continue to rise, Duke Diet and Fitness Center has a unique opportunity to positively impact lives in ways that can bring about real, lasting change. Dedicated resources to support facilities, scientific research and clients who face financial limitations are critical to our continued success.

We invite you to become a philanthropic partner with us as we seek to maintain our position at the forefront of healthy living.

Building Fund

Ensuring the comfort of our clients is among Duke Diet and Fitness Center’s highest priorities. The building fund allows us to address the needs of our participants with state-of-the-art facilities, services, and equipment.

As a residential program, the DFC is committed to providing an environment that supports healthy lifestyle changes and positive relationships with fellow clients.

Research

Duke Diet and Fitness Center is well-positioned within the larger Duke Medicine organization to collaborate with a variety of health care specialists and researchers.

We are interested in assessing the effectiveness of the DFC’s intervention in the short and long term on a variety of outcomes including fitness, improvement in health status, ability to perform activities of daily living and quality of life.

Among the questions we hope to answer are:

  • How does the DFC’s post-program lifestyle coaching option impact weight loss?
  • How are pain, quality of sleep, and emotional health linked to one’s ability to manage weight?
  • For whom should obesity medication and surgery options be strongly considered?
Financial support for evidenced-based research will keep Duke Diet and Fitness Center on the cutting-edge of obesity treatment and disease management.

DFC Fund

The Diet and Fitness Center Fund is a permanent endowment that provides financial aid for individuals who are otherwise unable to afford the full cost of participation in one of the DFC’s programs. A dream of the DFC staff for many years, the Diet and Fitness Center Fund makes our programs available to those who need us most, regardless of their ability to pay.
