Interventional Catheterization

The Interventional Cardiology Clinic and Congenital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory offer state-of-the-art facilities for performing the entire range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including some of the most promising advances only available as clinical trials.

The pediatric cardiologists who staff this clinic have advanced training in pediatric cardiac catheterization and congenital cardiac interventions.

Services offered in the Congenital Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory include:

  • Diagnostic catheterization, including pulmonary hypertension testing
  • Pulmonary, aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve balloon dilation
  • Pulmonary artery, coarctation of the aorta, pulmonary vein and systemic vein balloon dilation (with endovascular stent placement if necessary)
  • Occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) or other abnormal vessels
  • Ventricular endomyocardial biopsy (Heart biopsy)
  • Pericardiocentesis (drainage of fluid accumulating around the heart)
  • Atrial septal defect closure
  • Patent foramen ovale closure
  • Ventricular septal defect closure
  • Balloon or blade atrial septostomy
  • Swan-Ganz monitoring catheter placement
  • Short and long term central venous catheter placement, including transhepatic Broviac lines
  • Temporary pacing wire placement
  • Foreign body retrieval
