Where did you receive your undergraduate and medical training?

I received my undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College in Maine. My medical degree is from Tufts Medical School.

How long have you been at Duke?
I started working at Duke in 1994.

Where did you work prior to coming to Duke?
Prior to Duke, I worked at the University of North Carolina and the University of Michigan.

What are your board certifications and society memberships?

I am board certified in pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric critical care.

What led you into the field of pediatric cardiology/pediatric cardiac surgery?
I was very interested in complex management of infants and children.

What are your areas of sub-specialty and how have things changed since you entered the field?
My focus is on the intensive care unit (ICU) and to the care of ICU patients.

Are you involved with any clinical trials or research studies? If so, what are you examining?
My current research includes safety in the cardiac ICU.

What is the focus of your current research and how will your research contribute to the field of medicine?

I have lead the field into providing safe and effective care for children.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy the people at Duke the most.

What are your personal hobbies or interests?

I enjoy spending time with my kids.
