Duke radiologists with specialized training in breast
imaging use a variety of techniques to detect and diagnose
breast cancer, including mammograms, breast ultrasound, and
MRI.
Breast imaging radiologists are skilled in all forms of minimally invasive biopsy techniques including needle core biopsies using stereotactic and ultrasound guidance (with mammatome capability when appropriate) and pre-surgical wire localizations.
For many women, stereotactic needle biopsy can spare them a more uncomfortable and expensive surgical biopsy. It can also allow them to start their treatment sooner.
