Sarcomas occur in the connective tissues of the body (cartilage, fat, bones, blood vessels, muscle, nerves, deep skin tissues). These tumors can occur in any part of the body, although half of them develop in the arms and legs.
At Duke, we strive to destroy the disease while preserving function. Our team of specialists use the latest technology accurately diagnose the disease and create a treatment plan. Most sarcomas are best treated with a combination of therapies, which may include surgery, radiation therapy, or chemotherapy.

There are more than 50 types of sarcoma. Among the more common types of sarcomas treated at Duke are angiosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, chordoma, ewing's sarcoma, fibrosarcoma, GIST, leiomyosarcoma, liposarcoma, histiocytoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, osteosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, and synovial sarcoma.
