Duke's ambulatory anesthesiologists deliver anesthesia to patients who are receiving outpatient surgery at the Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center.
We provide anesthesia and postoperative pain management to over 7,000 patients a year.
Preoperative Care
Our anesthesiologists offer preoperative education to inform you about the procedures associated with your surgery,
discuss the anesthetic choices, order appropriate laboratory
tests, and prescribe medication for you, if needed, before your
operation.
Our goal is to make you feel comfortable about the procedure and confident about pain management throughout the process.
Operative Care
Our anesthesiologists offer the most advanced operative and regional anesthetic techniques including targeted peripheral nerve blocks, continuous infusions of local anesthetic, diverse types of analgesia, and paravertebral blockade for breast surgery.
Providing patients with targeted and regional anesthesia allows for quicker recovery time and a better overall experience.
Postoperative Care
Ambulatory anesthesiologists at Duke pioneered and developed the use of peripheral nerve catheters that permit patients who have been sent home to have continuous local anesthetic infusions in order to manage postoperative pain.
Patients regularly indicate that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the anesthesia and pain management they received from our ambulatory anesthesiologists.
