A. Diplomate on the American Board of Anesthesiology with
special certification in pain management
Q. What led you into the practice of aesthetic
anesthesiology (or the field in general)?
A. As an anesthesiologist, I enjoy this type of surgery because
it provides instant gratification to a basically healthy
patient population. These are procedures that patients are
requesting rather than procedures that are performed for
medical reasons.
Q. What are your areas of specialty and how have things
changed since you entered the field?
A. My area of specialty is pain management. Anesthesiology and
pain management have improved tremendously through the
implementation of specialized monitoring and the advent of
short acting, rapidly metabolized anesthetic agents.
Q. Are you involved with any clinical trials or research
studies? If so what are you examining?
A. Currently evaluating self efficacy in chronic pain setting.
We are evaluating how chronic pain patients view themselves

Q. How will your research contribute to the field of
medicine?
A. Alleviate suffering in acute and chronic setting

course of your research?
A. Postoperative pain and nausea are the most feared issues. In
the chronic setting, lack of control of one’s destiny is most
feared.
Q. In a couple sentences please describe what you love
about your work.
A. My work is fun because of our staff and physicians that I
work with. Everyone has a single goal—that of patient safety.
We are a very cohesive group and that is very important in
providing quality service.
Q. What do you think sets Duke Aesthetic Center apart
from other Aesthetic practices in the area?
A. We have a unique multidisciplinary group providing cosmetic
surgery in a medical center based outpatient facility. Our
faculty and staff go the extra mile to assure patient comfort,
safety and satisfaction. Our satisfaction rating is quite
high.
Q. Do you have any personal hobbies or interests that you
would be willing to share?
A. Mystery novels
