Duke’s Adult Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant (ABMT) Program treats patients with more than a dozen different conditions.

Diseases targeted by bone marrow and stem cell transplantation include:

• Leukemia
• Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
• Myeloma
• Hodgkin’s disease
• Autoimmune diseases

Types of transplants offered at Duke include:

• Autologous -- patient serves as his or her own donor
• Allogeneic -- another person serves as the patient’s donor
• Haplo-identical -- half match, such as a parent donor for a child
• Syngeneic -- an identical twin serves as the patient’s donor
• Mini-transplant -- a novel therapy that extends transplant as an option to older patients by offering a less intense pre-transplant chemotherapy and radiation regimen

The ABMT Program’s state-of-the-art inpatient unit features an advanced air filtration system that keeps dangerous organisms away from patients weakened by treatment, thereby reducing complications.

The program also offers extensive support services, including emotional counseling for patients and families, support groups for caregivers, financial counseling, and help in finding accommodations near the medical center.
