Rainbow Volunteers

Rainbow Volunteers will work with patients in the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant unit.

Volunteers are based out of the Hope Lodge Connection, which is the only common gathering space that patients and families share, and where daily group activities take place.

Rainbow Volunteers participate in a mandatory three-hour training prior to serving on the PBMT unit. Following their training, Rainbow Volunteers provide respite for parents, sit with children, and provide general unit hospitality for PBMT patients and families.

Rainbow Volunteers serve in three-hour shifts, once a week.

Opportunities

Volunteers help provide these services:
  • Help to bring a welcome change of activities or conversation.
  • Provide respite care and sit with the patient while the parents spend some time away.
  • Support the patients by encouraging them to walk laps, play games, do art, or by just being a listening ear.
  • Maintain a clean and welcome atmosphere in the Connection.
