Duke Medical Minute allows Duke specialists to give a brief snapshot into men's health offerings at Duke.
In this episode, Donald O'Malley, MD, answers questions about Duke's new orthopaedic locations and the innovative treatments offered at these locations.
Announcer: We’re talking orthopaedics with Dr. Donald O’Malley, and he is in the Raleigh office. And once again, people think Duke, they think Durham, but you’re right here in Raleigh, doctor.
O'Malley: That’s correct, we have just opened an office in Knightdale, and we have an office as well in the North Raleigh area right next to Duke Raleigh hospital. So we have access to all the specialty care of Duke here in Wake Country.
Announcer: Let’s talk about some of the new stuff -- computer guided knee surgery. For the layman, explain that.
O'Malley: Well, knee replacement surgery has been around for a long time and some of the problem that you have is getting the knee lined up properly. With the use of a computer-assisted navigated system, you use GPS technology to line the prostheses up in the body as perfectly as you possibly can.
In theory, that will allow the knee to function better for a longer period of time. And that’s performed here in Wake County now through Duke Orthopaedics of Raleigh.
Announcer: Once again, Duke Sports Medical Minutes, talking orthopaedics with Dr. Donald O’Malley. And we want to remind you they have offices in Raleigh and in Knightdale.
